Production Stage Manager and Artist

Danielle De Vito

Danielle De Vito is a creative manager equipped to tackle any project, challenge, or new idea that is thrown her way. She prides herself on being extremely organized, calm in the face of chaos, and a quick thinker.

Danielle has completed her studies of Dance Production and Film & Media Arts, with a concentration in Marketing, from American University. Through studying these disciplines, she has discovered how they intersect with each other and with her professional pursuits.

Production Stage Management is the primary focus for Danielle’s career. Within production, she has experience working with theatre, dance, site specific work, and dance on film. She spent two summers working at The American Dance Festival, a semester working as a Production Stage Manager for her capstone, during which she created a dance show throughout an art museum, and she spent a semester writing her thesis on how Production Stage Management is a tool for innovation in the arts. Through these experiences, Danielle has gained extensive knowledge in the field. This includes how to manage a crew, create schedules and spreadsheets that work and are easy to understand, and ensure every part of the show runs smoothly- from pre to post production. She absolutely loves this type of work and is excited to continue pushing the conventional boundaries in the arts.

Danielle also extends her knowledge to the world of film and video production. From a young age, when Danielle discovered iMovie on her family’s Mac computer, to today when she is still editing videos to celebrate milestones, she has had a strong passion for the filmmaking process. Since discovering this passion, she has produced multiple films, a TV series, a game show, and spent a semester at FAMU International, an acclaimed film school in Prague where she produced and filmed an award winning video. With a particular interest in production, Danielle has also worked with production and advertising companies to help produce commercials and other professional videos.

Danielle also has a love for dance. She has been dancing her whole life, but started her formal dance training in high school. During this time, she performed in every school dance performance possible, and the impulse to perform continued through her studies at American. Danielle savors working with choreographers and other dancers to work through the performance process, culminating in an execution that is as close to her heart as it is to the creator’s. Danielle has enjoyed the opportunity to work with and dance for guest artists such as Zoe Scofield, Rosy Simas, Orange Grove Dance, Charles O. Anderson, and Britta Joy Peterson. Her performance practice has scoped from the classic proscenium stage to site specific work, as well as dance on film.

With all of this, Danielle’s passion and knowledge extends through dance performance, cinematography, photography, advertising and marketing, graphic design, drawing, storyboarding, and event planning. Regardless of the task, she approaches every project with an artistic eye.

Rather than saying “no” Danielle prefers to find creative solutions to challenging problems in order to make nearly anything possible. She loves applying this way of thinking to the production and stage management of dance and theatre because these are worlds in which possibilities are endless, as we often create beyond what has previously been imagined.
